The Town of Southbridge is pleased to have three community gardens in the downtown area of Southbridge.
We are excited to offer these community gardens to the residents of Southbridge, especially for people living in multi-family homes who have limited yard space for a garden. The gardens promote a sense of community and pride as well as provide fresh, local food.
The Town will allow the use of a 4’ x 8’ plots to gardeners on a yearly basis. The cost to Southbridge residents is currently free per plot per year. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The plots are available from April 29, 2016, to October 31, 2016. Residents are responsible for planting and maintaining their individual plot and all are responsible for keeping the community garden clean.
The community gardens are located on Chestnut Street (allocated to the Cops N Kids program), Cross Street and Worcester Street, which is handicap accessible. The Town in coordination with the Center of Hope will provide a planter box, soil, water barrel and compost bin. Residents can plant flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Reserve your plot now by going to the Health Department at 41 Elm Street to fill out an application or download an application here. For more information, call 508.764.4252.
We are working on a guide that will help you plan and care for your garden. Download link will be available on this page when it is ready.
