Following the provisions of Massachusetts zoning law, the Southbridge Planning Board regulates the subdivision of land, oversees the master planning process, acts as the special permit granting authority, and makes recommendations for additions and changes to the Southbridge Zoning Bylaw.
The Board meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, but usually has only one meeting per month in December, July, and August. The Building Inspector acts as the agent of the Board, and the Economic Development and Planning Director acts as the clerk of the Board. The Board usually meets in G.A.R. Hall, which is located in the lower level of the Town Hall.
Current Projects include a special permit for Cumberland Farms in the Central Core District, Maggie Lane and Servant Way street acceptances, home-based businesses, zoning map changes, and a proposed amendment to the Zoning Bylaw to allow livestock on less than five acres. We have recently completed a new master plan. Please visit the Southbridge Master Plan website.
The Board invites those interested in serving as alternates for special permit decisions to submit a letter of interest to the Town Manager.
Planning Board meetings are open to all.
