Overview
The Southbridge Economic Development Commission (EDC) promotes a strong and vibrant town economy in order to increase the tax base and to provide jobs, goods, and services to the community. The EDC works to promote an entrepreneurial spirit throughout the various sectors of economic development in the Town. It reviews and makes recommendations regarding Tax Increment Financing agreements, promotes the Town's industrial park and other enterprise areas, works to attract and retain advantageous growth, and undertakes projects that will help to establish a good environment for growth and the retention of business, agriculture, and industry.
Current EDC projects are development of a rewards program called Best Dressed Southbridge, laying the foundation for an education foundation for the Southbridge Public Schools, and development and improvement of an expedited permitting process in the Town. The EDC welcomes and always has time to visit with those who have ideas for making Southbridge more business-friendly.
There are currently openings on the Commission, including 1 position for a non-resident, provided that he or she is in a decision-making position in a Southbridge enterprise. Business, agriculture, or industrial professionals are encouraged, as the EDC is striving to increase its collective experience in enterprise. If you are interested in joining the Commission, please submit a letter of interest to the Town Manager's office (41 Elm Street, Southbridge, MA 01550).
